Jigsaw puzzles were created in 1760 by John Spilsbury, a British engraver.  He mounted a map on a sheet of wood, sawed it into geographic pieces, and used the pieces to assist in teaching geography.  Even today, jigsaw puzzles are used as a learning tool.  In addition, jigsaw puzzles are a great family activity, a way to build memories with loved ones, help to develop motor skills, and relax the mind (almost like a painting, one stroke or puzzle piece at a time).

Paintings and artwork are no longer just for the walls. Ohio Artist Terri Meyer has created jigsaw puzzles from several of her most popular images.
