Shopping for framed artwork has definitely changed over the last 10 years.  My artwork was sold exclusively through the Creative Chateau Gallery in the old days.  However, many sales were lost due to the painting being the wrong size or the customer not liking the frame or mat style . This equated to lost revenue from the customer and in the framing costs. Everything can be designed online, so you get a visual representation before purchasing  How I love technology  Plus, there is a no-risk return policy if it doesn't work out.

Times have changed.  Offering framed artwork for sale online customized to your specifications has gotten very easy and efficient.
