Vintage Wall Decor that is the "Talk of the Town"
History never goes out of style. Want to peak someone's interest? Frame a piece of history and it will be the topic of conversation in the room. Even young people are intrigued by the old days as compared to how things are today. History is the invisible thread connecting generations upon generations.
The story behind the Historic Postcards of Ashland, Ohio. In the beginning of my art career, I started dating my husband, whose mother was an avid collector of historical items. My husband would assist in art shows and suggested I frame up some historical postcards to see if they would sell. I acted upon his suggestion and sold out of my framed vintage postcards. Subsequently, I thought about making them into clocks, which I did and again they sold out. That is how I became involved in the vintage postcard business. It popular because people connect to places that they share memories of. Whether it be a place they grew up, visited a grandparent, took a vacation to etc.
Below are a few of my favorite vintage postcards of Ashland, Ohio. When I started selling these reproduction postcards 20 years ago, downtown Ashland was rundown and very few people shopped there. But do to the efforts of people like David Lee and other prominent people of the community that supported the revitalization of the downtown area, things have began to thrive again. It's wonderful to see people shopping, dining and just hanging out because there is so much positive energy on Main Street.
